New Yammer setting change

Summary

Updated November 12, 2020: To ensure the best possible experience for our users, we are delaying some of our deployments to reduce the amount of change flowing into the services.

In the next phase of the new Yammer experience rollout, all users of classic Yammer will see the opt-in toggle for new Yammer.

When This Will Happen

Rolling out mid-November and complete by mid-January.

 

How This Will Affect Your Organization

All classic Yammer users will now see the opt-in toggle for new Yammer by default.

The “Stay in classic Yammer” option will no longer be an option in the Yammer admin center.

Newly-created Yammer networks will default to “Enabling the new Yammer as default” with the option to change the default setting.

New features include:

  • Ability to customize network branding to suit your organization
  • Groups are now called communities
  • New reactions to posts and replies
  • Pin posts to the top of a community feed

 

What You Need To Do To Prepare

Review the changes and assess the impact on your organization. You can use a trial tenant to test the experience without changing your existing Yammer network.

 

Global admins and Yammer verified network admins of existing networks can control how your organization rolls out the new Yammer experience by adjusting options under the ‘New Yammer’ tab in the Yammer admin center.

Choose between these options:

  • Enabling the new Yammer as opt-in (default)
  • Enabling the new Yammer as default setting
  • Enabling the new Yammer for all users with no opt-out option

You can move back and forth between these settings at any time.

You might also consider updating your training and documentation and sending out change comms within your organization as appropriate.
