When This Will Happen

We will begin rolling this out in early April and will be complete by late April.

  • Some customers may get an update sooner than others due to different devices and planned gradual rollout.

How This Will Affect Your Organization

This update will include the following features:

  1. Touch console support. Most Teams Rooms on Android devices are compatible with a touch console (e.g., Poly TC8). When paired with a Teams Rooms system, the console will let users see the room calendar, join meetings, and place calls directly from the console. During meetings or calls users will be able to see current meeting participants, add new ones, switch content layouts, raise hands, and perform all other supported actions.
  2. Calendar on landing page. A full-day calendar view will show all scheduled meetings on the system and permit users to join meetings directly from the device. All existing calling and meeting functionality will remain available and will be arranged along side the calendar.
    • If touch console is connected, all actionable functionality will move to the console, but the calendar will remain visible for quick reference on the connected display.
  3. Personal mode improvements. The following features will be available to users who sign in with personal accounts (e.g., E5 licenses) into the Teams Rooms on Android systems.
    • Start Microsoft whiteboard. Users will be able to share the whiteboard into the meeting from Teams Rooms systems.
    • Start recording. Users will be able to start recording during a meeting or call.
    • Enable background effects. Users will be able to blur or completely replace their background with a pre-canned image. This functionality is only available when a touch console is not paired.

What You Need To Do To Prepare

You might want to notify your users about this new capability and update your training and documentation as appropriate.
