Using SPSS on VDI.USJ.EDU

 

NOTE: You must install the Horizon client before continuing.  Please see the article “Installing & Configuring VMWare Horizons Application” before using the SPSS application

 

Windows 10 Instructions -

  1. Launch the Horizon Client & connect to VDI.usj.edu
    1. NOTE:  When launching Horizon Client, you will get prompted to allow or deny redirecting USB devices. 

THIS MUST BE ALLOWED

  1. Click the SPSS Statistics 25 application icon         

       

  1. The application will launch. You can then create a new data set or upload an existing set.

 

 

  1. To upload a data set
    1. Download & Save or Copy the data set onto the USB Drive
    2. Insert the USB drive into your device
    3. Open File Explorer & locate your USB drive under “This PC”, make note of the Drive Letter (D: in this example)

  1. In the SPSS Welcome window, select “Open another File” (or click the Folder in the main application title bar)

   

  1. Click the arrow on the left of the “Look In” field & scroll down until your see the Drive Letter on PC Name option.  (D on USJ-15343 in this example)    Click the entry to open the drive.

  1. Locate the data set & double click to open.
  2. The selected data will then load into the main SPSS Application screen.
  1. To save & export a data set
    1. Click File, Save All Data.    This will update the file stored on the USB Drive.
    2. To export, click File, Export.  Select your format & repeat steps E,F + G above to locate the USB drive.

 

 

  1. To upload a data set into SPSS using a macOS device
    1. Download & Save or Copy the data set onto a USB Drive
    2. Insert the USB drive into your device
    3. Launch the Horizon Client & connect to VDI.usj.edu
    4. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner 
    5. Select the USB tab at the top of the Settings window

  1. Click the “Start USB Services” button
  2. When prompted to confirm, click Continue   (device admin password will be needed)

  1. If prompted, “Open Security Preferences”

  1. Security & Privacy will open.  Click the lock to unlock these settings (device admin password will be needed) Then click the “Allow” button.  This will allow your USB drives to be seen by SPSS

  1. Click OK to confirm the System Extension Warning

  1. Click the Lock to finalize the settings & close the Security & Privacy window
  2. The Horizon Client USB window will now update to say:   
  3. If this does not update, reboot and repeat this process.
  4. Double click the SPSS Statistics 25 application icon         

       

  • The application will launch. You can then create a new data set or upload an existing set.
