Replying to Discussion Board Threads (Students)

Problem

Do you need to reply to a classmate's thread on the course Discussion Board but aren't sure how? Follow the steps below to create a reply.

Environment

Blackboard (Students)

Resolution

1. Log into Blackboard at http://bb.usj.edu using your USJ username and password.
2. Select the arrow next to your name in the upper-right corner. In the menu, click on the course title located under the course tab.
3. Once in the course, you will see a Discussions tab on the left side of the page
4. Click the Discussions link.
5. Once you’ve accessed a forum and have entered the Thread, you can reply to anyone who has posted to that thread.
6. To reply to a post, click the post to which you want to reply. It will open in the lower part of the page. Click Reply to open the Reply to Post page.
7. Enter a new subject, or leave unchanged.
8. Then enter your reply in the message area.
9. Include attachments if allowed and desired.
10. Click Submit. 

Cause

Once a thread has been posted under the "forum", or topic of discussion, students are able to create replies. Replying to a discussion thread created by another student allows for communication on a particular topic.
